I went to get my nails done a couple weeks ago and Lan, the lady that was doing my nails, was so sweet and we had a wonderful conversation. She told me she was speaking Vietnamese so I shared with her some stories/places from our trip to Vietnam. I also casually mentioned I LOVED the rice paper spring rolls, to which she replied, “next time you come in, I’ll make them for you!” Today was that day. I felt so special. All the ladies and I talked about places in Vietnam and I could tell how much enjoyment they got reminiscing about their home. I don’t know their situation or if they’re able to make it back to Vietnam, but I do know they were so proud to share their world with me, even if it was for a short while. Needless to say, I enjoyed the best rice paper spring rolls ever. The graciousness and laughter that ensued was truly remarkable. Lan also bought me some rice paper/noodles so we could make them at home ourselves. These are the types of human moments I live for…everyone has a story, it’s just a matter of taking the time to listen. #humbled #grateful #vietnam #bestlaughsever #ricepaperspringrolls
"Cheerfulness, unaffected cheerfulness, a sincere desire to please and be pleased, unchecked by any efforts to shine, are the qualities you must bring with you into society, if you wish to succeed in conversation. … a light and airy equanimity of temper,—that spirit which never rises to boisterousness, and never sinks to immovable dullness; that moves gracefully from “grave to gay, from serious to serene,” and by mere manner gives proof of a feeling heart and generous mind."

"The Rosseaus, Marxes, Tolstois — men of thought, mind you, ‘impractical’ men, ‘idealist’ have done more to decide the food you eat and the things you think do than all the millions of Roosevelts and Rockerfellars."
F. Scott Fitzgerald, who would’ve been 116 today, responds to hate mail accusing his work of being too impractical and out of touch with the “real people” who “create business and politics.”
